In cycling, rim height significantly impacts the aerodynamics, agility and weight of the wheel. The general principle is the higher the profile of the rim, the greater the aerodynamic advantage; the lower the profile of the rim, the greater the response and better the handling when cornering and changing speed. Medium-depth rim profiles offer compromises with regard to aerodynamics, response and agility.

THE CALL OF THE WIDE

Wider tires roll faster, and are more comfortable, than narrow tires. The tubeless ready, 21-mm internal width of the 42C is optimized for use with modern, wider tires, providing them with the right amount of sidewall support to facilitate surefooted handling in all conditions. At a depth of 42mm, the 42C rim is a great handling, lively climbing, robust all-round performer that also aerodynamically outperforms many deeper, aero-specific rims.

PREMIUM QUALITY HUBS AND SPOKES

With two main goals in mind—long life and easy serviceability—we looked to Switzerland. The 42C uses an ultra-reliable, rapid engagement DT 350 star-ratchet freehub for smooth power transmission and long-term dependability. Similarly, DT Swiss Competition spokes were chosen to lace hub to rim, and finished with Pro-Lock nipples.

Full Carbon Clincher. High Strength Carbon for Lightweight Performance

Using the latest carbon forming technology, we are able to build a very strong rim from carbon only. A critical area for durability, the tire bead hook of the EPIC clincher rim is up 73% stronger than other carbon clincher rims. This gives you a wheel that is very light, with positive braking performance, and reliable durability.

2-Way Clincher Tubeless Tubes or No-Tubes ,You Choose

Use either traditional tires with tubes, or tubeless tires without tubes. Tubeless tires can provide lower rolling resistance and better protection from punctures.

Elliptic-Toroidal Rim. Reduce Aerodynamic Drag.

The Elliptic-Toroidal rim shape reduces Aerodynamic drag by matching the spoke side of the rim to the round shape of a tire. This elliptical shape makes the leading edge and the trailing edge of the rim more symmetric. Our CFD aerodynamic simulations have validated that this Elliptic-Toroidal shape provides more uniform airflow, and reduced drag over the primary Yaw angles between 0 to 20 degrees.
